US semi sales overtake China semi sales

For the first time in over five years, chip sales in America have overtaken chip sales in China with US July sales of $15.4 billion and China July sales of $15.2 billion.

Globally, July chip sales of $51.3 billion were up 18.7% on the July 2003 sales figure of $43.2 billion and up 2.7% on the June 2024 total of $50 billion, says the SIA.

“The global semiconductor market continued to grow substantially on a year-to-year basis in July, and month-to-month sales increased for the fourth consecutive month,” says SIA CEO John Neuffer, “the Americas market experienced particularly strong growth in July, with a year-to-year sales increase of 40.1%.”

Regionally, year-to-year sales were up in the Americas (40.1%), China (19.5%), and Asia Pacific/All Other (16.7%), but down in Japan (-0.8%) and Europe (-12.0%). 1. Hi DAVID –
based on the reported SIA’s July 2024 global chip sales numbers, the Cowan LRA forecasting model is predicting a full year 2024 global semiconductor sales of $603.7 billion which trended upward from last month’s forecast of $602.5 billion.

This newly determined sales forecast result equates to an updated 2024 yr-o-yr sales growth prediction of 14.6%, which is very slightly up from last month’s result of 14.4%, BUT still lower than the WSTS’s released SPRING 2024 market forecast of 16.0% published at the beginning of June, 2024.

It should be highlighted that according to July 2024 sales results the cumulative year-to-date sales through July 2024 came in at $339.6B compared to last year’s corresponding July 2023 YTD sales number of $287.5B, thereby yielding a YTD cum sales growth of 18.1%. Therefore, the YTD cum sales through July 2024 drifted upward a bit from last month’s result of 17.5%
