Called G9EC-X1, “switching and driving sections are gas-injected and hermetically sealed, allowing these relays to interrupt high-capacity loads. The sealed construction also requires no arc space,” according to the company.
At 98 x 44 x 86.7mm, it is identical in size to the original G9EC model.
Contact resistance within the relay is less than 0.5Ω, said Omron (Electronics Weekly is checking this figure, it is likely to be 0.5mΩ). “As a result, the device can stand a continuous carry current of 200A at 85°C.”
Dielectric strength is specified as 4kVac between coil and contact, as well as between contacts of the same polarity.
Operational life is rated at 1,000 operations at 1kVdc 150A, 6,000 operations at 1kVdc / 100A, and 3,000 operations at 400Vdc 200A.
Approval is to UL508, and applications are foreseen in dc safety shut-down for fast chargers, as well as shutting down junction boxes, commercial inverters or solar PV inverters.
