The new members, STM32G491 and STM32G4A1, have 112kbyte of ram and up to 512kbyte of flash – compared to the 32kbyte ram and 128kbyte flash in the STM32G431.
Of the two new MCUs, STM32G4A1 also has a AES-256 crypto core.
What they don’t have is the high-resolution timers found elsewhere in the Access Line “since engineers only need them for digital power systems”, according to distributor Anglia, which is stocking the parts. “However, they do have the USB-C PD controller, two CAN FD interfaces and a slew of other communication peripherals.”
There are also three 12bit ADCs with gain and offset compensation to offload the CPU, plus four op-amps, four DAC channels an four fast comparators.
The parts are included in STMicroelectronics’ product longevity program which guarantees mass production for 10 years from the introduction date.
Development support comes from the Nucleo-G491RE board.
“For the compatible boards, the external SMPS significantly reduces power consumption in Run mode,” said Anglia. The Arduino Uno V3 connectivity support and the STMicroelectronics morpho headers allow the expansion of the functionality with specialised shields.”
The boards also have an ST-Link debugger-programmer integrated, and are covered by free software libraries and examples within the STM32Cube MCU package.
